Enver Gjokaj was an American film and TV actor who was best known for his co-starring role as Agent Daniel Sousa on the Marvel series "Agent Carter" (ABC, 2015- ). Having grown up in a rural town in Northern, California, Gjokaj was about as far removed from Hollywood as one can think of. Even his name, Enver Gjokaj, which was given to him by his Albanian father, was not the usual type of mainstream actor's name that rolled off the lips. Despite having a difficult to pronounce name, however, Gjokaj pushed himself during high school to hone his acting craft. He started appearing in local plays in and around his Northern California hometown, and became such a mainstay in the town's local theater community that it was only obvious that his next stop would be Hollywood. But that wasn't entirely true for Gjokaj. Rather than leaving town at 18 to try his luck in Hollywood, he instead moved to nearby Berkeley to study English at U.C. Berkeley. After receiving his B.A. in English four years later, Gjokaj then decided to focus all of his attention on improving his craft by attending the prestigious Graduate Acting Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Upon graduating with his master's degree, Gjokaj quickly began landing bit parts on TV shows like "The Unit" (CBS, 2006-09) and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (NBC, 2001-2011), as well as in films like "The Express" (2008) and "Eagle Eye" (2008). His first big break came in 2009 when he appeared as Victor on Joss Whedon's much-beloved science-fiction series "Dollhouse" (Fox, 2009-2010). The show received mixed reviews from critics but had a strong cult following. Still, it wasn't enough for "Dollhouse" to avoid cancellation after its second season. Undeterred, Gjokaj continued working steadily over the next few years, having mostly landed one-off guest spots on TV shows, as well as recurring parts on "Vegas" (CBS, 2012-13), "Extant" (CBS, 2014-15), and "Rizzoli & Isles" (TNT, 2010-16). Then in 2015 Gjokaj was cast as Daniel Sousa on the ABC superhero series "Agent Carter." The first season premiered on the network in January 2015 to glowing reviews. Gjokaj reprised his role when season two debuted in January 2016.
