An exceptionally poised young film actress who exhibited an early knack for challenging roles as troubled adolescents, Kristen Stewart got her big break playing Jodie Foster's daughter in David Fincher's hot-wired thriller "Panic Room" (2002). As the teen's profile rose over the following years, Stewart consistently impressed audiences and critics alike with her realistic performances and her choice of projects, which began to echo Foster's early career by steering toward more demanding adult dramas versus family fare. She would go on to make her biggest splash as Bella Swan, the tortured teen in love with a vampire classmate in the pop cultural phenomenon "Twilight" (2008) as well as its subsequent sequels. Such was her appeal as this particular film heroine that she would develop a huge fan contingent and consequently become the subject of tabloid rumors regarding an off-screen love affair with her equally attractive co-star Robert Pattinson. Proving her fame was no "Twilight" fluke, the actress scored outside the vampire franchise as the sword-wielding heroine of the hit "Snow White and the Huntsman" (2012). Gracefully aging into adult roles as she reached her 20s, Stewart proved she was one of the more versatile young actresses of her generation.

Bonus Trivia

Grew up in a Hollywood family: father was TV producer John Stewart, mother was script supervisor and film director Jules Stewart. Older brother Cameron Stewart worked on film crews.

Performed her own guitar and vocal tracks as Joan Jett in "The Runaways" after working closely with the rocker to capture her performance style.

Stewart was named Hollywood's highest-paid actress, according to Forbes magazine's 2012 list. She reportedly earned $34.5 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Was the first American actress to win France's Cesar award, for her supporting role in "Clouds of Sils Maria."

"Acting is such a personal thing, which is weird because at the same time it's not. It's for the consumption of other people. But in terms of creative outlets and expressing yourself, it's just the most extreme version of that that I've ever found. It's like running, it's exertion. When you reach that point where you can't go anymore and you stop and you take a breath, it's that same sort of clearing of the mind." -- Los Angeles Times, November 10, 2008

Made a cameo appearance in the video for Jenny Lewis' single "Just One of the Guys"

On rumors about her sexuality: "If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it. But I am an actress, man. I live in the f---ing ambiguity of this life and I love it. I don’t feel like it would be true for me to be like, ‘I’m coming out!’ No, I do a job. Until I decide that I’m starting a foundation or that I have some perspective or opinion that other people should be receiving...I don’t. I’m just a kid making movies." -- Nylon, August 2015
